Drug & Alcohol Interventions

Your loved one has a problem with alcoholism or drug addiction. Maybe they’re hiding the problem or denying that it exists, but you can see it–and feel it. Sometimes, it feels like you’re the only one suffering because of it.
Maybe you’ve tried–unsuccessfully–to get your loved one into treatment in the past. Although you have the best intentions, you know how easily these types of conversations can quickly escalate and become out of control, causing your loved one to sink even deeper into denial and despair.

When Is an Intervention Necessary?

When your loved one is unable to recognize the problem and is ambivalent toward treatment, the best way to get them the help they need is by staging a professional intervention.

Nationally Recognized Interventionists

An intervention gathers important people in your loved one’s life–family, friends and colleagues–and confronts your loved one in an honest, compassionate way. There is no one way to stage an intervention, but working with a professional interventionist can vastly improve your loved one’s chances of entering treatment.
New Found Life works with some of the nation’s top interventionists who have proven track records of guiding hundreds of people into treatment, contact us for a recommendation.

What to Expect During an Intervention

Each intervention plan is designed around an individual’s unique needs and circumstances. Still, there are a few overarching elements to expect, including:

  • Planning: The most effective interventions take a highly individualized approach, which requires extensive preparation. A trained, experienced and licensed interventionist gets to know the family and develops an intervention plan that takes participants, the location and the best approach into consideration. Because the eventual goal is for the person to accept treatment, the interventionist will also coordinate immediate transportation and admission to treatment.
  • Education: Although family and friends are saddled with emotional turmoil related to their loved one’s struggle with substance abuse, they may not fully understand the disease of addiction and the challenges their loved one’s struggles with on a day-to-day basis. Intervention participants learn about healthy coping behaviors and effective ways to support their loved one instead of enabling them.
  • Guidance: An interventionist is an objective third-party who has no emotional investment in the situation at hand. That way, they’re able to be open, honest and keep the conversation on track while giving everyone the opportunity to express themselves in a healthy way.
